Unlike our LU trips, the ones going to Baler would entail longer hours of drive. That one weekend my friends and I chose to go surfing again was that weekend everyone else went to the Hot Air Balloon Festival at Clark and Panagbenga in Baguio. Imagine the traffic horror we had to endure at NLEX at 3 o’clock in the morning! 7 hours and countless restroom breaks (not to mention the half an hour us girls — Keila and I — spent standing on the side of the one-way expressway while the boys pushed pick-up #2 hard to get out of the mud it was stuck in), we have arrived.
We’d normally hop in the water right away but the current was too strong we just had lunch and rest first. We had our second attempt before the sun went down but no good. It was our friend Andre’s birthday a few days before, so we celebrated with coffee and boxes of homemade brownies!
Able to squeezed in a catch up with one of our (Ian and I) closest friends Bal who was also at Baler so we visited him at his cottage. We stayed a little past midnight and had to walk the streets and it scared me because it was dark and there were a lot of dogs! Good thing there was a tricycle nearby which dropped us to our place.
We almost didn’t surf because it was so tempting to just sit back and relax at the beach. Had vegan breakfast and coffee at Charlie Does before we submitted our bodies to the waves, and we loved the vibe of the place! Though the trip was too short to be called a vacation, it was just what we needed.
